Solvent-free Moisture Determination of Oils and Lubricants

Controlling and monitoring the amount of water in oils and lubricants is a major concern for refineries and manufacturers to ensure a quality product is being delivered to consumers; and to commercial and personal consumers to maintain optimum output.

Using RH sensor technology Arizona Instrument LLC has developed the Computrac® Vapor Pro® Fx analyzer that is capable of determining the water content of oils and lubricants. It is sturdy enough to be in the production area, requires no reagents for measurement, and requires little technical skill to operate efficiently. After testing both refined and crude oils and lubricants the Vapor Pro® Fx was found to be capable of reliably and accurately measuring moisture levels as low as 10ppm and as high as 50% water by volume. It is currently being validated as a Karl Fisher alternative by the American Society for Testing and Materials.
